Moss-blanketed giant oaks, peaceful marshes, and pristine waterways define Wadmalaw Island, which is about 10 miles long and six miles wide. The island is situated to the south of Johns Island, but enjoys more circuitous waterfront access— as it’s surrounded by the Wadmalaw River to the west, Bohicket Creek to the northeast and east, and the North Edisto River to the south.

In addition to the defining coastal marsh and waterfront scenery prominent across Charleston’s area islands, Wadmalaw Island is renowned for its tea cultivation history. The Lipton Tea Company originally operated a tea farm in the area from the 1960s to the late 1980s. Several other tea farmers set up shop in the following years, including Bigelow Tea Company, which is now Charleston Tea Garden.
